Gates
The 50-gate ladder: how attacks work, health and armor for every gate, and everything each gate unlocks.
Behind the chest in THE HOARD stands a gate. Chests crack themselves; a gate you have to attack. Press ATTACK GATE and the crew is let loose on it for 30s, then the gate goes on a 20m cooldown — 3 attempts an hour before upgrades. The gate keeps every point of damage between attempts, so any gate falls eventually. The chest keeps cracking the whole time.
An attack only lands while the game is open. The top bar and the nav step aside for the fight; switching to another browser tab is fine and the attack keeps going, but if you close or restart the game (or your phone suspends it in the background), the attack ends where you left it, after a few seconds' grace for a slow connection. The damage done so far is kept; the rest of the attempt is not.
When a gate's health reaches zero you claim it: it pays gems and skill points, opens whatever sits on that rung of the ladder, and the next, much tougher gate stands up. Gate progress is limited by real time, not by how long the app is open.
Health, armor and block
| Lock | What it is | What beats it |
|---|---|---|
| The total damage the gate takes to break. Each gate has about ×3.7 the health of the one before it. | Gate damage — and patience: damage is saved. | |
| The plate on the gate's face. You need as much Accuracy as the gate has Armor for every swing to land. Below that, swings miss on a curve (ratio to the power 1.5): with half the accuracy you need, about 35% of swings land. At worst 10% always land. Armor climbs with every gate (15 at gate 1, 21 at gate 2, 108 at gate 8), so expect to buy a few more GATE ACCURACY levels for each new gate. | ||
| Damage the plate takes off every swing that lands. A swing always does at least 5% of its damage. | Armor Pierce shrinks the block along with the armor — at full pierce nothing is blocked. Bigger single swings lose a smaller share. |
Crits, mega hits and ferocity
- A crit lands double; Crit Damage upgrades raise that.
- A super crit (bounties) lands ×5 and replaces the crit roll.
- A mega hit (research) lands ×10.
- Ferocity (the Warlord Hyena) gives every hit that lands a chance to strike again right after. The second strike is a normal hit with its own number, never a crit, and the armor blocks it like any other swing.
Attempt length and cooldown
Gate Attempt Time upgrades add seconds to the 30s attempt, and Faster Cooldown upgrades take a percentage off the 20m wait. Both come from the Achievement Shop, the Shard Shop, the skill tree, heirlooms and one artifact. There is no floor on the cooldown — the sources simply do not add up to much more than half.
What the gates unlock
A gate level here means gates broken. Every account goes through the same ladder — nothing is grandfathered. A gate opens a menu or a shop row, never a stat.

Most other gates open rows inside menus you already have: named rows in THE ARMORY and rows in each world's expedition shop. The full ladder below lists them per gate. Deeper skill tree rows (gates 14, 17, 20, 24, 28, 32, 37, 42, 47) and Shard Shop tiers II and III (gates 20 and 35) are gate-locked too.

Gate damage sources
Gate damage is the one stat in the Hoard that compounds: levels inside one menu add together, but each menu multiplies the others. Ten small sources beat one big one, and a source you have ignored is usually the cheapest multiplier available. The sources:
| Source | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The Hoard | More slots, higher levels, stars, evolutions and gate-leaning natures. Rampart Ram and Warlord Hyena add gate stats of their own. | |
| Upgrades | Hoard Power, gate damage, accuracy and pierce rows bought with bars. | |
| The Armory | Permanent gate damage, accuracy and pierce rows; more open with every gate. | |
| Expeditions | Each world's shop has siege rows; later worlds' rows are roughly double the last. | |
| Research Hall | The ninth statue of each world is its gate damage statue. Kings multiply each other — the biggest single multipliers in the game. | |
| Shard Shop | Battering Ram, Keen Sights, Wedge Bits and their gate-locked II / III tiers. | |
| Artifacts | Ramshead Seal, Truesight Lens, and the Collector's Crown / Curator's Eye that scale with artifacts held. | |
| Achievements | Siege Practice, accuracy and pierce rows in every tier. | |
| Skill Tree | The whole right-hand side, plus Apex Predator (gate damage per shiny species in your dex). | |
| Bounties | Gate Damage Per Bounty: +1% for every bounty you have ever completed — open-ended. | |
| Prestige | Heirlooms carry gate damage, cooldown and armor reduction across prestiges. | |
| Shop | GATE DAMAGE: 10 levels, ×1.2 each (×6.19 maxed), 1,000–80,000 gems a level. | |
| Ticket Trove | The last levels of the Trove pay Hoard Damage and Gate Damage. | |
| Guilds · Sticker upgrades | Guild perks and the album MIGHT rows add gate damage too. |
